Diabetic / Peripheral Neuropathy
Peripheral Neuropathy
This painful condition results from damage to the peripheral nervous system – the nerves that travel from the spinal cord to the limbs and organs. The fragile nervous system can be damaged by disease, trauma, surgery or many other factors. Damaged nerves can send confused or amplified signals to the brain, which can be perceived as pain. Most neuralgia sufferers feel acute pain in a specific part of the body. Sensations can range from a steady burning to a pricking or electrical shock.
Diabetic Neuropathy
Diabetic neuropathy is nerve damage caused by diabetes. It can occur anywhere in the body, but the most common areas are the feet, toes, hands and arms. Diabetic neuropathy of the feet is caused by high blood glucose levels, which can damage blood vessels and nerves over time.
Patients with neuropathy understand that it takes a caring physician to treat the pain and symptoms associated with neuropathy. With the advancements in medicine, our Arizona pain specialists and treatment center utilize Spinal Cord Stimulators, also known as Neurostimulation therapy in some cases to provide relief for neuropathy as well as injection medication and medication management if needed.
Spinal Cord Stimulation Option
Spinal cord stimulation (also called SCS) uses electrical impulses to relieve chronic pain in the back, arms and legs. It is believed that electrical pulses prevent pain signals from being received by the brain. SCS candidates include people who suffer from neuropathic pain and for whom conservative treatments have failed.
