What is Sacroiliac Joint Pain?
Sacroiliac (SI) joint pain occurs when one or both sacroiliac joints become inflamed, irritated, or unstable. The sacroiliac joints connect the base of the spine to the pelvis and play an important role in absorbing shock and supporting body movement. Dysfunction in these joints can lead to pain in the lower back, buttocks, hips, or upper legs.
SI joint pain may develop because of injury, arthritis, pregnancy, repetitive stress, altered gait patterns, or degeneration over time. Many patients describe pain that worsens when standing, walking, climbing stairs, or transitioning from sitting to standing.
Because SI joint pain can closely mimic sciatica or lumbar spine conditions, a detailed physical examination and diagnostic evaluation are important in identifying the true source of pain. At Arizona Pain Treatment Centers, our providers utilize advanced diagnostic techniques, physical rehabilitation, and interventional pain management treatments focused on reducing inflammation and restoring mobility.
